We had wonderful time there staff were very friendly and professional. Even with the covid19 restrictions in place they made our stay safe and comfortable. We were worried about traveling during covid19 but they made us safe and at home at the same time, and it was a big piece of mind to see them sticking to the guide lines. At no time did we feel as risk as there was a good social distance and dining times were pre booked so numbers were at a minimum in dining room, and food was delicious. We will definitely stay here again.

We were to stay for two nights but left after one. The room was very dated and the double bed was uncomfortable and noisy. During the night when anyone flushed the toilet it was like a alarm going off. The shower curtains kept blowing in when using the shower. The hairdryer kept knocking off after 10 seconds. To top it all at breakfast we were asked to pay extra for peppermint tea first time this has ever happened. Very disappointed as this was our Covid Break.

Decor of rooms and hotel in general is very dated, however it is this decor which gives it a great little charm.

Staff are very friendly, courteous and happy to chat about any topic / give local advice tips. Also any reasonable request was never too much trouble. Never had dinner or lunch but the breakfast was excellent and all cooked to order.

Would highly recommend for a weekend getaway

I was with my wife in November 1995. I breathed a unique atmosphere. The owner looked like Meryl Streep ...... I remember very well that the first day of our arrival had the carpenters who made the restyling at the reception with curved wood. The parts did not fit together and then the two carpenters at 8 pm would plan and transform the reception into a carpentry shop, with sawdust scattered everywhere ......
She calm and without raising her voice, let it go. After two hours of useless efforts they dismantled everything and took away the furniture to make it again, but this time in the appropriate place .... the holder took the broom and dustpan, plastic bags and with an employee of the Restaurant cleaned the reception. ..... The calm of this person, then he made me understand how much we Italians, we are hysterical ..........
The overnight stay was special, the rooms were quiet and the view of the town was truly relaxing, I still remember that we ordered the duck that night and its smell and taste was very pleasing to us. Several years have passed and I don't remember the other dishes that were prepared for us during those days of overnight stay, but the memory of the place is still inside my heart.

Clifden was very busy on Thursday night last and tables for five were hard to come by.
Thus we were delighted when the courteous young waiter suggested that if we took a seat for a few minutes he'd organise a table for us.
This he did within minutes. We dined in a very nice dining room and social distancing was observed.
The food and wine were EXCELLENT as indeed was the service received.
Well done to all at the Alcock and Brown Hotel.
We will be back if we're in Clifden again and would highly recommend a visit.

This hotel was booked for us by John, who owns CYCLE TOURS IRELAND. It was a one night stay on an amazing week of cycling. The hotel's name refers to the gentlemen who flew the first transatlantic flight from Newfoundland which landed near Clifden. (Read TRANSATLANTIC, a novel by Colum McCann before you travel to Ireland!) The rooms were comfortable and clean and the breakfast filling and with lots of choice. The location was ideal for wandering the town after a day of cycling. Go across the street to the grocery store to buy a cup or tub of locally made ice cream! The pub was modern and quiet - nice for visiting. The staff were very friendly. Thanks for the warm welcome to Ireland and for accommodating John, his bicycles, and all of his group!

Great location in the heart of clifden, staff were friendly and room were clean. Covid measures in place and all necessary distancing masks and hand santizers in place. Had dinner in the hotel it was nice and relaxed however wasn't very impressed with the chicken in the pasta which was very tough and sauce lacked flavour. Will stay again but May eat elsewhere!

We stayed at the Alcock and Brown Hotel on the 27th June, 2015, the staff were friendly and helpful. The lamb shanks were cremated and too tough to chew, the sweet potatoes were too soggy. The Irish Stew was mush, totally over cooked and fairly tasteless and more like 'baby food'

The fire alarm went off in the morning which disturbed our sleep sadly to stay I would never at this hotel again.

Traditional Hotel with interesting historical connections. Clifden is an attractive town and we'll worth a visit as a centre for walking or cycling. The hotel staff are very pleasant with Maria a particular star. The bedrooms are comfortable and the breakfasts good quality so overall good value.

Firstly i have to say that the hotel is in a superb location, right in the middle of town and everything is on the doorstep, but as far as compliments go, that's about it. The hotel is very tired and desperately needs a refurb.Firstly on arriving in Clifden I phoned the hotel to ask where the 'paid, private parking on-site' was, simple answer, there isn't any, it's park on the road and pay for it or park in the supermarket car park, over the road from the hotel, which is locked after 9pm. On entering there is a distinct 'musty' smell. We checked in and were directed to our rooms, on the top floor at the rear of the hotel. We had travelled to Ireland this time with my 83 year old mother-in-law, who is very fit and able for her age, I asked where the lift was, simple answer is, they don't have one. This is not made clear in their listing. It was a major problem for another couple checking in at the same time.

The room itself was clean and tidy, although the bathroom was in desperate need of attention, there was a large hole in the inside of the bath which would preclude it's use as a bath, shower was fine. The extractor fan was that loud and off balance it would wake up anyone sleeping in the room.

Dining, my wife is a ceoliac which anywhere else in Ireland isn't a issue, their menu is very limited generally but if you have an allergy it's pretty poor, fortunately there are numerous places to eat out in town that do have good menus. Breakfast was ok but pretty basic and again very poor for ceoliacs, no gluten free cereals and on the second morning they had to nip over the road to Supervalue to get some Gluten free bread.

All in all, not impressed and I would be fairly desperate to use this hotel again. It does not live up to it's listing.
