The place looks overgrown, along with bored looking animals. Overpriced for what you actually saw. Not convinced they even have half of what they say they do. Waste of time, I hope the animals are getting taken better care of than it seems

I thought the zoo was okay. My biggest complaint was some of the pens were quite small and there was no sun relief. It was warm the day we were there and some of the animals, with heavy coats of fur, had no protection from the sun's heat. Shade and/or water relief seemed appropriate. On a positive note, they did have a large variety of animal species and it was an overall positive experience.

This zoo was very boring. If anyone says this zoo is amazing is because they don't have other zoos to compare. You would find more wildlife exploring different trails than looking at basic birds and animals you would find in your backyard. My 6 year old niece and little nephew begged for us to leave. Each animal looked lonely and tired:(

I love our zoo. It's smaller and more simple than others I've been to, but I think it's authentically Alaskan while throwing in a couple of surprises (like Amur tigers for one example). It is setup in a way that you feel like you're walking through an Alaskan forest. Because of this, it isn't the most wheelchair-friendly place in town, but visiting in a wheelchair can be done. The amount of bugs that bothered us while visiting was minimal.

Great small zoo! Nearly all of the animals are rescues--abandoned cubs, healed injuries, or maladies from birth. If you are not from Alaska, there is no better place to see all of the wild arctic animals you have hoped to see. The prices are reasonable and the behind-the-scenes tour is unbelievably detailed and in-depth.

This zoo has some nice areas and ideas. The animals generally looked well taken care of. The facilities and condition of the zoo were poorly kept, and the total lack of on-screen signage directing customers, especially tourists was disappointing.

I loved this zoo I wish their were more animals though and was handicap friendly it's not paved and because of that wheelchairs and dirt don't really work out that great but it was very beautiful and I did enjoy the animal's I did see though

Small zoo, quite rundown and small enclosures for animals... I wouldn't waste my money on it if I knew before hand, hopefully they get some more funding to improve and keep helping the animals.

Always a good experience when I visit. It gives everyone a chance to get an up close look at animals found in Alaska and some from other parts of the world. I like supporting the zoo because they do great rehabilitation work and educate the public a out wildlife.

Do not waste your time or money at the Alaska Zoo. We spent over $40 for our three children and myself and barely saw anything. Most of the pens were empty. Everything that could be chained off, including photo opportunities and playground were unavailable. When at the petting zoo section, the zoo employees allowed children who were apart of their camp into the petting zoo. We waited to ask if our children could do the petting zoo. They were not allowed. It was really unfair to watch a group of many children petting the animals and then be told other children were not able to do so. The only thing the children were happy to see was the harbor seals, so they asked to go see them again. When we walked back the lower section was chained off for no apparent reason. Their were no employees around to ask why we could not see one of the few animals visible and active. SERIOUSLY the WORST zoo we have ever been to! We will not be back ever again.

I really liked this zoo, more than most I've been to. It was a nice last stop on our last day in Alaska, but compared to all the epic adventures and scenery we experienced, including native animals in the wild, it felt a bit tame by comparison. The zoo is not overwhelmingly large, but features mostly animals native to Alaska. It's a great opportunity to see them up close, as out in the wilderness you typically need high-powered binoculars or a stroke of incredibly good luck. The enclosures are large enough to give the animals room to roam, but not too large that they can roam far from view. It's a very family-friendly place, evidenced by the large number of mostly local families we saw there. Something I could tolerate, but that didn't necessarily add to the experience.

It's quite small but they pack alot in that small place. The bear section was great and I could watch those otters all day long. I think overtime as more people visit Anchorage this zoo will grow into something even more spectacular than it is now. This is a must see attraction when visiting Alaska.

Loved it here. They're open all year. The coffee/sandwich shop is lovely. I got to see the musk ox in person on a day when the farms would not have been open so I was very happy with my visit. The other animals are mostly rescues or trades with other zoos. The story of how this place started with just one elephant is very touching and unique. The zoo is a non profit and does not get any government funding. The gift shop is nice to visit as well. You can get treats and activities to help support the animals.

The zoo itself is nice and has low admission costs. Unfortunately many of the animal exhibits were concerningly small, especially ones like the brown bear and harbor seals.

I am not sure how well the zoo can provide for the needs of their animals in such constrained habitats.

I was here for a Warehouse 49 event and had a great time. The venue was clean and spacious. I didn't go into the zoo on this trip but when I have in the past it was a great experience! Large enclosures (for a small zoo) and friendly, knowledgeable staff. It's a wonderful afternoon outing for families and couples. They also do some awesome events throughout the year!

Everybody loves the zoo! I just didn't know when I took my mother, who is in a wheelchair, that I would be pushing her in gravel. Leaving and having to push uphill was excrutiating. This was the first zoo I ever went to where the walkways are not paved. To see the seals, we had to go all the way to the end of the display area and cut back to be able to reach it in a wheelchair. Just a little disappointing.

Adorable little zoo. Majority of animals are indigenous to alaska, but a plenty of outliers. Took us approximately 2 hours to see everything at a moderate pace. Admission is reasonable with a cute coffee shop and gift store. There is a small petting zoo area with chickens, a rabbit and a few goats. Lots of good informational plaques with lots of staff around to ask questions. Polar bear was sleepy today, but the brown and black bears were lively. Very cool 5-dog wolf pack that was also fun to watch. Easy to accidentally drive past as the sign kind of pops up behind the trees, so watch closely as you get near on the road. Will definitely be back!
