Been on the waiting list for 3 years. An every time I call the receptionist is SUPER RUDE! I m never able to get the information I need! It s really sad that mothers have to wait years to get stable housing all because the staff at the AMHA building has no common courtesy for the underprivileged.

I m a long winded millennial with too much time on my hands, so fair warning.

**TL;DR : I m 32 yrs old & need to be added to my grandma s lease in public housing. Amha employee denied application without reason, ignoring all occupancy guidelines. Refused to provide me an explanation (which is POLICY!). Told me idk what to tell you, file appeal , yet refused to give me the info on HOW! And spoke to me as if I were incompetent, even hanging up on me!! I m filing appeal PLUS a formal discrimination suit.**

I meet all qualifications (which she didn t even check before denying! No background check or interview was held)! No criminal record. My granny and I will reside together and share housing expenses (aka: THEIR DEFINITION OF FAMILY COMP ). My granny has a 2 bedroom so a larger unit is not needed (they WILL deny an adult member if an upgrade will be needed. Per policy). And an expedited process for this accommodation request to revise her lease based off disability status is due that they re ignoring! It s been MONTHS!

If they re denying me This basic request that I clearly qualify for, I can only imagine how they mistreat and mishandle other applicant s cases such as dv victims, single moms, homeless ppl, etc! How many of us are out here on the streets who were denied housing or waiting for years because these workers sit on a high horse and have no compassion, Empathy, patience, or General understanding of their policies and procedures and just get away with it because we Be so discouraged that we just give up or return back to unhealthy living situations. Smh.

If you get evicted... get all of your personal property and your food. Because they will take what they want and sell your stuff. They are very unprofessional and have no communication skills.(Michelle Balentine and Stephanie Pence) No compassion or common sense.

I currently live in a scattered site unit. It is nearly impossible to contact Michelle Balentine who is the property manager and also Antionette Brown who is a recertification specialist. It seems as though no one communicates properly with another individual and now my family is facing eviction due to lack of communication on their part. I did not have nearly as bad of an issue living at Colonial Hills but since moving into a house through scattered sites its been nothing but problems. Do not even get me started about maintenance, I have had issues that have needed to be fixed for months now, they came out to check and never returned, never fixed the problems.

About Akron metropolitan housing authority

Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) is a non-profit organization that has been providing quality housing to families in Akron, Ohio for over 80 years. The organization was established in 1938 and has since then been committed to providing affordable and safe housing options to low-income families.

AMHA's mission is to provide decent, safe, and affordable housing for eligible individuals and families while promoting self-sufficiency and neighborhood revitalization. The organization believes that everyone deserves a place they can call home, regardless of their income level.

One of the key objectives of AMHA is to help residents achieve self-sufficiency by offering various programs such as job training, education assistance, financial literacy classes, and more. These programs are designed to empower residents with the skills they need to become financially independent.

AMHA manages over 5,000 units across Akron through various programs such as public housing, Section 8 vouchers, tax credit properties, and more. The organization also partners with private landlords through its Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP), which allows eligible families to rent from any landlord who accepts the voucher.

The HCVP program provides flexibility for both landlords and tenants while ensuring that low-income families have access to quality housing options. Landlords benefit from guaranteed rental payments while tenants benefit from having a wider range of rental options available.

In addition to providing affordable housing options for low-income families in Akron, AMHA also plays an important role in neighborhood revitalization efforts. The organization works closely with local government agencies and community organizations on initiatives aimed at improving the overall quality of life in Akron's neighborhoods.

Some of these initiatives include community clean-up events, youth mentoring programs, job fairs for residents seeking employment opportunities within their communities among others. By working together with other stakeholders within the community AMHA aims at creating vibrant neighborhoods where people can thrive.

Overall AMHA has made significant strides towards achieving its mission over the years by providing quality affordable homes for thousands of low-income households across Akron Ohio. With continued support from local government agencies as well as private sector partners like landlords who participate in HCVP program it will continue making positive impacts on lives many people living within its jurisdiction
