About Air force aid society

The Air Force Aid Society: Meeting the Unique Needs of Airmen and Their Families Since 1942

The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) is a non-profit organization that has been serving the needs of Airmen and their families since 1942. As the official charity of the U.S. Air Force, AFAS provides emergency financial assistance, educational support, and community programs to help Airmen and their families thrive.

Emergency Financial Assistance

One of the primary services provided by AFAS is emergency financial assistance. This program provides interest-free loans or grants to eligible Airmen and their families who are facing unexpected financial hardships such as medical bills, car repairs, or other emergencies.

To be eligible for this program, applicants must be active-duty Air Force members or retirees with at least 20 years of service. Spouses and dependent children are also eligible for assistance in certain circumstances.

Educational Support

AFAS also offers a variety of educational support programs to help Airmen and their families achieve their academic goals. These programs include:

- General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program: This program provides need-based grants to children of active-duty, retired or deceased Air Force members who are pursuing an undergraduate degree.
- Supplemental Education Loan Program: This program offers low-interest loans to assist with education-related expenses such as tuition, books, fees, etc.
- Merit Scholarship Program: This program awards scholarships based on academic achievement to high school seniors who are dependents of active-duty or retired Air Force members.

Community Programs

In addition to emergency financial assistance and educational support programs, AFAS also sponsors various community programs designed to enhance the quality of life for Airmen and their families. These include:

- Bundles for Babies: This program provides new parents with essential baby items such as diapers, clothing, blankets etc.
- Car Care Because We Care: This program offers free oil changes and vehicle safety inspections for eligible military personnel.
- Child Care for PCS Program: This program assists military families with child care costs during permanent change-of-station moves.

How You Can Help

As a non-profit organization that relies on donations from individuals like you in order to continue providing these vital services to our nation's heroes - every donation counts! Whether you choose to make a one-time gift or become a monthly donor - your contribution will make a difference in the lives of those who serve our country.

Conclusion

Since its inception in 1942 - The Air Force Aid Society has been committed to meeting the unique needs of Airmen and their families through its various emergency financial assistance programs; educational support initiatives; community outreach efforts; all while remaining true its mission statement "to relieve distress among United States Air Force members".
