Better hope it doesn't ever have a meltdown. Think Fukishima, Chernobyl, or Three Mile Island...When we have an EMP (only a matter of time), they will ALL melt down and go haywire, then what? Anyone living anywhere near one of them will be very blessed to survive. The nuclear radiation will be Castrotrophic. Hopefully they have been warned and have got their potassium iodide tablets ready so it doesn't ruin their thyroid.

From the train tracks and barges one can see this is a coal power plant. It is how you produce consistent electricity for the base load. Not as clean burning as nuclear or natural gas but all part of the energy complex. You don't want to rely on one source of energy, diversification of your energy power. And since coal mines are nearby, makes sense to burn coal to produce the power. Wind and solar are part of the solution also, and hopefully a bigger part in the future.

John Amos is a great place to work! I love my contacts Duane and Ken. They have a great attitude towards safety and it is a clean plant considering it's age. I am fortunate to get to work here a lot and I love it here. The plant workers are friendly and hold doors for me and smile and wave. I guess maybe it is just West Virginia, but people seem nicer here. The cafeteria is awesome too!

Also, to the woman who talks about the place melting down... this isn't a nuclear power plant! There's no radiation! There are cooling towers that cool the water from the condensers and other plant processes. (Those things you see on the Simpsons).

I rate with 5 stars to thank for the energy to run google. So now I have some things to correct. 1 it's not a jugular powers plant. 2 ninja turtles aren't real. 3 if it is giving you cancer then why are you gaming around it so much. There for people who didn't know how to google.

The amount of pollution this place generates is unbelievable especially when we have access to the sun which is basically a giant ball of free CLEAN energy floating in the sky.

Cancer rates are higher around coal burning power plants for a reason and this place is right next to a major city! Yikes!!! At least this place provides consistent business to hospitals.

NOT a "Nuclear" power plant (cooling tower does NOT mean "Nuclear") its a COAL power plant (Bituminous coal) , they installed NOx & SO2 removal units in early 2000s ( = after 30 Years) , better late than never ... Unit 3 with 1300Mw is as strong as a modern design nuclear reactor (incl. the German "Konvoi"-type-PWR & Russian AES-2006 which is based on the WWER-1000 / VVER-1000 )
