This is a very important cultural place, but their reception staff lacks culture. They need some intense courses on how to speak to people with respect and not insult them in Italian and laugh, thinking I wouldn t understand.

Getting in line early is worth it. Even if the museum opens at 8:15 a.m., the queue forms very quickly. Those who have not reserved a ticket wait the longest as all others are given priority.

If you want to see David (yes, it's worth it), you can't avoid this museum.

Everything about this place is breathtaking the history, the artist, the statues, the art, the architecture, but the statue of David takes the cake. Words cannot describe the amount of detail that he has. They were shooting a video if it when we were there so no one was supposed to take pictures. I was able to get a couple of decent ones from my jacket.

A must in Florence. Michelangelo's David is truly impressive and it is likely to want to spend a lot of time observing him. Once overcome the astonishment, I advise to visit the room of the sculptures, where one is amazed to see that amount of beautiful sculptures and friezes all gathered in one place.

Someone should tell Michaelangelo that when he made the David a hundred years ago he forgot to make the Goliath, would have given 5 stars but for now only 1 until he adds the best part of the exhibit.

I've been twice, and feel very fortunate to have done so as Michelangelo's David is every bit as impressive as anyone has ever describe it. I did not expect this. I was simply awestruck upon seeing it. I was almost equally surprised at the rest of the museum. Is unfinished works where very interesting to look at and try to figure out his methods.

Another excellent reason to visit Florence. Many other good reasons to brave the crowds at this wonderful gallery, but, it is David that gets all the attention. Stunningly beautiful with excellent Public Relations!

The Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts of Florence, or simply Gallery of the Academy (Galleria dell'Accademia), is an important museum of Florence, dedicated to the preservation of a rich set of works of art from the Gothic until the end of the 19th century .
In 1873 Michelangelo's David moved from his original position in Piazza della Signoria into a special space at the Gallery's headquarters. (Wikipedia)

More than a review I would like to make a clarification, I read so many reviews of the users of the academy that is unfortunately confused with the Accademia gallery, if you look for the David you have to go to the Accademia gallery .. a little further on via Ricasoli, not here .

Michelangelo's David is impressive. I've never seen anything like it. You can spend many minutes looking at it almost without blinking an eye. I recommend going early to avoid an eternal wait in line, since the place is tiny and until people leave, you cannot enter.

I attended the academy of fine arts in Florence and I graduated in Decoration with 110. My evaluation as an Italian and visitor is unfortunately absolutely bad; the academy is left to itself, the building falls to pieces, the professors are mostly useless and absolutely not professional and unable to explain. I don't recommend it and I wouldn't see it again. It is a pity to ruin a historic and important building and also the image of Florence.

Worth the visit by David in the rest nothing special. Most of the sculptures are plaster copies. Small museum not important. Better to spend that time at Uffizi the best Renaissance gallery in the world.

We were lucky that it was still open late in the evening and we were able to see the Michelangelo exhibition with almost no visitors. 5 stars because we were able to take detailed pictures without any problems.

As always, a complete cluster to get into, but this time was extra special. They split our 15+ group up, and made five of us go to the much longer line for groups of <10. Was it because I said Please don t touch me when a handsy attendant gripped both of my shoulders from behind? He sure got angry about it, so maybe. He insulted my looks (super professional) and sent us to the end of the longer line.

Anyway, the Accademia also has problems with crowd control inside. You d think with how long non-ticketed folks wait, that there must be some sort of staggered effect for entry...There is not. It s a hot mess. But they ve got the David, so why change? People will always come.

Even if you are not an art enthusiast, seeing the David is a wonderful experience on its own. We had to wait more than 30 minutes to enter the museum, and it was mid October. Pre booking tickets online can save you som time.

Leaving the first room and heading down the corridor that takes you in front of "David" is quite an experience. The sculptural groups of the "Slaves", also by Michelangelo, are beautiful.
The rest of the museum is worth a stroll: the great 19th-century sculpture room (you've never seen so many together) and the rest of the painting rooms. Perhaps the museography is a little dated but it does not influence the long queues.
Always go early.

Seeing the statue in a photo no matter how wonderful is simply not sufficient to appreciate the majesty of Michelangelo's masterpiece...which was carved from a used piece of marble. The intensity of his gaze as he contemplates sending the stone on its journey to fell Goliath is really amazing and though the statue is 13 feel tall and completely marble you can practically see him breathing! If you want to avoid the long queue - please book your tickets online

A fantastic place little known today but very rich in works of art and historical memories where knowledge and knowledge are combined with practice.
Where many teachers transfer the fine arts to young students, pride of the city of Florence and its traditions.
A mine to defend, to make known and valued so that politics finally becomes aware of it and gives it its right value again.

This place was very difficult to get into, even though we had a pass the ques too forever, best time to go is at night time, there is one night a week they are open late (Wednesday). Of course, this is a must to see, so many beautiful statues and works of art, and the most popular pice of art here is the statue of David by Michel Angelo.

No doubt the works here are excellent, yet the gallery is surprisingly small. We only spent about one hour here.
The works are certainly great, however the gallery is tiny. We were there for just an hour.

The academy of fine arts could also be called the Michael Angelo museum because most of the art in there he made . We purchased the tickets from home and good thing we did ,the line to get in was around the block . When we arrived at the gate to validate our tickets there was a lot of commotion and some yelling and screaming . The people in front of us purchased tickets but didn't have proper identification to be accepted entrance . It appeared they purchased tickets for youth and their identification didn't support that. When we made it to ticket counter she asked the ages of our kids and I provided her with school id and passports . We were granted immediate access and it was well worth it ! The statue of David was remarkable as was the museum . If u make it to Florence u have to make it to this museum . It was worth it.

5 stars for David. 1 star for the rest. 8 Euros, just to see David (magnificent) and unfinished statues of Michelangelo. The rest of the paintings could be a part of Uffizi and there would be no need to visit 2 museums.

The richest collection of masterpieces. Halls simply can not withstand the influx of art lovers and just curious tourists. David Michelangelo never lets go, you can only escape and escape. Hourly queue at the entrance is not even remembered, but it is better to have time for the opening. Awesome gallery. Required to visit!

Little hospitality without professionalism and availability for information on the various educational plans. Outcome: negative because my daughter completely rejected the idea of being able to choose the academy of fine arts.

The statue of David is certainly the main attraction and is worth the visit to Florence for that viewing itself as this statue is a treasure of mankind. However, there are other unfinished works of Michelangelo in the hall leading to the David which are referred to as the prisoners - locked in the marble as incomplete works. Michelangelo's technique of sculpting from the front to back gives the sense that the image is almost breaking free of the marble containing it.
