Very small theatre in an old railway arch. Bar prices fair. Went to see a friend in a play. Very intimate in the actual theatre... Feels like you are on stage with the performers but a lovely little gem.
A great little, relatively new community theatre that keeps delivering wonderful shows. Being under train arches does add an occasional, possibly unwelcome sound effect but every show I've been to has still been full, which doesn't surprise me given the quality of the new content being produced.
Wow, such a beautiful new venue..... I really enjoyed seeing the 25th anniversary production of Beautiful Thing here last night. I was however a little disappointed with the staff and their attitudes. The box office guy seemed okay until he started working the bar and then came across generally quite rude.... the lady there was lovely, she poured the measures of sprits a little short and at those prices, you d expect a full double..... otherwise it could be an outstanding venue. Hopefully they are just having a couple of teething problems?! I really do hope that is the case!!
Nice to drink and watch theater. I love how smart the place is.
New venue is excellent, and continues to show great stuff. However allocating seats at ticket collection is very irritating. You can only get them up to an hour before the show. To ensure 4 of us sat together we had to be there a full hour early, leaving time to kill - but not enough to leave the area to have dinner. Is it to boost the bar revenue, or am I cynical?
Best theatre ever. Never seen a bad production here and usually end up seeing shows twice!
Excellent fun, fantastic service and hospitality, very diligent Covid measures thoughtfully & politely applied, couldn't ask for better staff
Great show #heresheis
Excellent reasonably priced venue for gay productions, both frivolous and serious . Well worth a visit!
The new location is much better. Big spacious and open bar area . Excellent theatre. Very chilled and relaxing feel to the whole place. Really easy to find on the main road. There are always amazing shows here as ever.
A great place. Soon to move to exciting new premises.
Great place, can sometimes hear the train but usually doesn't impact on the show
Quirky place to see shows. It has a decent line-up of acts and is close to the station and other bars/restaurants.
Great venue, saw an excellent show - Velvet. Stayed for a few drinks after. Really relaxed crowd, and the staff are so friendly. Will be back for a drink sometime even when not heading there for a show
Brilliant little theatre showing gay themed plays and musicals. Even though it is in a railway arch, the sound of the trains doesn't distract from the show as they have all been captivating. Both musicals we've seen have been very well choreographed for the space and the actors all look like they enjoy being there and put their all into their performances.
The bar area is smart and serves its purpose well before going into the show.
Great venue for the best LGBT theatre in the country! Changes monthly and every production brilliantly put together! Some of the plays I've been back three times! Yep, love it!
Brilliant little theatre tucked away in the railway arches that puts on some of the funniest shows that I have seen. Although it caters for a more LGBT audience it is not predominately for this group. It has small bar and lounge area, which offers most drinks in a relax atmosphere. One not to miss is their yearly pantomime which is sure to have you rounding around on the floor.
Tonight was extremely busy and the staff as always were really helpful and nice.
Small, cosy venue. Seats a bit uncomfortable though. New venue should be better. Overall a really positive experience. Good plays. Great to have LGBT theatre in London. Keep up the great work guys!
Saw "A beautiful thing" it was a great theatre especially since the refurb.
Absolutely brilliant LGBT+ theatre. Great venue. Friendly staff. Stunning productions.
Great little theatre, excellent play, looking forward to going to see something at their new location
Love this theatre great space putting on some funny productions
Great supersized screen for Eurovision live broadcast, not that great sound though.
Staff was very friendly, relaxed and attentive, bringing popcorn, snacks, pizza all night long. Nice modern toilets.
Mixed drinks could be improved, they tasted as if I was making them at home - unprofessionally.
Anyway, it was good Eurovision night away from usual crowd.
The shows put on at this South London theatre are always spectacular. Heartfelt, funny and well performed. I wouldn't hesitate yo go back to more performances here. Saw Maurice in September which was a brilliant. Recently saw Mother Goose - a pantomime, which was outrageously funny with all the right flourishes of a great panto.
Watched Snow White Rotten to the Core. Great panto and cast. Well worth seeing if you got tickets. Can't wait to go when the place moves to the bigger venue next year
Independent theater, close contact with performers, it feels great
Under the railway arches in Vauxhall great theatre with good gay credentials
Dramatic & attention grabbing acting. Interesting set and appropriate costumes. A worthwhile and thought provoking experience. A licensed bar completes the pleasure, even the overhead sound of suburban trains from Waterloo cannot destroy the atmosphere though they do add local colour!!
From the humble alleyway next to the old Action Club, the "Above the Stag Theatre" have evolved and improved a lot. The exciting productions are the same, at a better location and fantastic setting.
Short straw walk from Vauxhall Station (opposite MI6 building), this new venue is well insulated from the trains running above. 2 theatres, a long bar and cozy tables, it makes a perfect setting to meet people after work. Am evening of entertainment, a nice drink on the rocks and no worries getting back home as Vauxhall has good transport connections. I recently saw their "Grindr Opera".
Didn't think much about it, but it was amazing. The settings, the performers, well priced (below London's high theatre prices) and the young crowd of sexy well connect professional people that makes London.
They have a new Home, fit for the West End. Enjoy
Disappointing. Seats very small. Uncomfortable if you're next to a big person. Unbearable if there's more. Noise from the show in next room so loud it detracted significantly from ours. Southwark Playhouse is better.
The theater has a limited seated capacity witch makes the experience so much more personal.
New venue is fantastic and Goodbye Norma Jean excellent
Great play. Great staff, especially behind the bar but as always, very unfriendly & cliquey theatre goers
Nice LGBTQ+ theatre nice bar good selection of wines and beer. Great staff. Always a great production.
Great shows, nice location, looking forward to this getting even bigger
Fantastic little theatre, everything I've seen there has been a joy, from comedy to tragedy. Go and see for yourselves you won't be sorry you did.
saw Extra Virgin Oil here 7th Feb. Gripping and intense play. Both actors gave great performances. A group of us regularly see shows here. A few weren't to our liking but overall they range from good to excellent. Very diverse shows which is the best part about it. A lot of talent showcased here from writers, artistic and creative team to the performers. Usually an enjoyable night out at a reasonable price
Andy Bell as Torsten in QUEERETERIA TV was amazing. The songs the set, the dancers, co-stars and the fantastic Matthew Baldwin as inimitable Lady Domina Bizarre. What am evening.
Lovely venue, great shows, amazing atmosphere, just need a few extra bar staff to deal with the throngs of people. Very definite crowd but hard to put a finger on who they are.
Too small.. Needs a bigger venue otherwise plays are great.
Great theatre with excellent shows. Love coming here.
One of my favourite theatres. A producing house dedicated to LGBT+ productions. It covers a wide range of genres - musicals, farce, thought provoking drama and light relief. Plus a wonderful adult pantomime every winter.
Welcoming, friendly staff and bar.
Really well done gender neutral toilets.
Attended last night to the the Beauty on the Piste. Great atmosphere. Fabulous performance. I laughed, I cried and I sat in front of a man that licked whipped cream from a performers finger that came from another performers face.
Great experience - lovely bar, fantastic theatre space and cosy cabaret bar.
I went there several times and it has always been a blast. Cozy, located under rail track, this theatre will make Your night out. Check out their bar for great selection of wine and spirits.
This is a brilliant new location for a great community theatre. Often sold out, and rightly so, the productions are of high quality for an adult audience. Highly recommended
Great venue. Friendly staff. All the performances are excellent
The pantomime is great fun for grown ups, full of double (and triple) entandres! A great place for accessible gay theatre.
the show was entertaining and the bar was really cool as it s under a big train arch.
This is a cool place. Very nice, friendly, bar and a couple of week equipped studios.
Nicely fitted new location in Vauxhall. Usually Jag camp, fun productions.
Love the choice of plays and the warm atmosphere of staff and venue
great ambiance, friendly staff and a good afternoon cabaret style show.
Great place - I attend the panto here annually and always enjoy it. The staff in the bar are always friendly and the atmosphere has always been pleasant
Excellent plays that resonate, in an intimate setting that buzzes. Recommended for sure
Always brilliant plays at this friendly venue - now with the added attraction of the Bear Chefs and a tasty food menu
Always something good on. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. All here work very hard to put on a great show. Good food and drink too
The Above the Stag team put on some good gay themed plays. The latest play, Lord Dismiss Us, was excellent. Current venue is in a railway arch so expect the rumble of trains overhead.
Great venue to watch shows. I have now twice seen the Christmas panto, both were excellent! The venue is small but it has a great feel, despite the occasional train going above it (its in the arches). I believe it's moving to a new venue soon and look forward to see it.
Great intimate theatre and excellent production of Closer to Heaven
Visited this gorgeous space to see 'Boom Bang a Bang' situated just a couple of minutes from Vauxhall Station, Above the Stag is a large LGBT bar with 2 theatre spaces. They are both small, which ensures a fantastic view wherever you are More
Finally, a venue worthy of the talent consistently producing great work! Grindr, the Opera was amazing and I can't wait until this year's panto.
Fantastic!!! Above the Stag has always been great but the new location is superb with everything and everyone inside as wonderful as ever!
The Panto was hilarious, no need for innuendo when playing this crowd, just out and out delightful, side splittingly funny, filth!
Was exactly what we needed to say farewell to terrible 2020!
Thanks ATS!!
