We purchased a brand new 2011 335d from a dealership here in CA. During the order process, the custom build we requested was built incorrectly after we had to wait 6 months for delivery. We find ourselves 4 years later @ 30k miles and with a warranty that just expired. During the last 4 months, we have had the car into the selling dealership 4 times for a variety of diesel related issues. The current issue is for a complete DEF tank replacement (Google P205c + BMW diesel). This tank is apparently on global allocation with BMW, and my wife s car has been sitting at the dealership for 3 weeks already, with no end in sight. The dealership offered us no courtesy car, nor a rental despite our request. They did however offer to sell us a $7k extended warranty via a third party service provider that is only usable at their dealership... Sigh..

Getting no assistance from the dealership, I then contact BMW directly to assist with our issues. I was told by one of their CSR's who I ve spoken to several times that he cannot do ANYTHING, and is waiting for "someone , somewhere else inside BMW" to provide him with an update - for the last 2 weeks. Again, they have offered no car rental, no assistance with dealer, and no ETA on the part.

I don't know what has happened to BMW, but 10 years ago when I was a 3 time owner of BMW's in early 2000, their service was a LOT better. Said differently, they actually cared about the consumers of their products, and stood by them.

Perhaps this is why everyone is leaving BMW and heading to Audi and Lexus in droves.

Buyers beware - make sure that if you are still going to buy into the "Ultimate Driving Machine" that your purchase the "Ultimate Extended Warranty" with it, you are going to need it.

Good luck!
