St. James Cathedral, the cathedral of the Anglican Church in Toronto, the oldest church in Toronto, was built in 1797. The church was built in 1850 and opened on June 19, 1853. It was one of the largest buildings in the city at that time. It was designed by Frederick William Cumberland, a Gothic Revival building.
