I used to practice yoga at 889 and was a member for many, many years. I ONLY practiced at this studio because after looking, I discovered they taught AUTHENTIC yoga at this studio. What I mean by this is, yoga is not just a 'physical activity' to get your body toned, it is also a spiritual practice. The teachers I learned from definitely had a REVERENCE for the practice of yoga. They were NOT about getting from one pose to another and ending up in some out of this world cool pose. They encouraged the students to move with humility, grace and strength. I learned so much from these remarkable teachers. Then just like that, one by one, they all left. The yoga studio turned in to a posh boutique. And all of a sudden essential oils became the lifeblood of this studio. In other words, the studio went from being about yoga to SELLING essential oils and over the top expensive THINGS. I heard there is a new owner now. I only hope that person will bring back 889 to what it was about: YOGA. The previous owners were not yogis, but two shrewd businesswomen. What they did to the studio left an ugly taste in my mouth.
