I had the lovely chance to meet two of theses gentlemen this evening. They were towering over my mother, who could not speak English. My mother was simply making a purchase at the store and the cashier gave her the wrong change and my mother would not leave unless they correct their mistake. The cashier called the police on her. Sadly, my mother has very poor English and no one understood her. When I arrived on the scene to save my mother, she cried out to me and told the police officers to talk to me. The WHITE policemen bluntly said " I don't want to speak to your daughter!"

I was shocked! Really? Here I am the perfect translator who can fill in the other side of the story and the policemen REFUSED to talk to me. He continued to ignore me, talked with the store associates and even went as far to accused my mother of being a nuisance. The only reason I am not giving 1 star is because the other gentlemen, African American guy, was polite and pleasant. He stood by us and listened to our story and they finally cracked the case and served us justice by returning to us the money the cashier took from my mother. The WHITE policemen only smiled to us at the end but it felt ... FAKE.

My family is colored. I do not want to say this is racism, but it certainly was not equal treatment. I do not know what else to call it and I am still bothered by it. Why did the WHITE policemen ignored our testimony but the African American policemen listened? This is just sad.
