This experience was so much fun! We visited three locally-owned pizza places (no big chains here!!!) and were treated to five very different types of pizza--not just different types of toppings, but different styles of pizza making. All of the pizzas were delicious, but by far the best (most unusual, most unexpected, most tasty) was the sausage, red pepper, and honey from Pizzeria Serio. There also was a delicious Italian beef deep dish from Exchequer Restaurant & Pub (where the tour originated) that was so different from the type of pizza my husband and I typically eat, but was so delicious! The three restaurants--Exchequer, Pizzeria Serio, and Labriola Chicago: Ristorante and Cafe had so much character and ambiance and really introduced us, as outsiders to the city, to several different and historically significant venues from the city. Our tour guide, Danny, was AMAZING!!! (No hyperbole here, trust me.) He is so knowledgeable about the city and about pizza--he was a tour guide for a bus line before coming to this tour many years ago--and throughout the night it was just lovely engaging with him and learning from him. He also had to deal with a pretty loud tour-goer, and did so beautifully! And at the end of the tour, we were treated to huge plates of Stan's Donuts for dessert. Be warned: There is a LOT of food to take in. And if you get the chance, and if you are so inclined, absolutely try the spiced pear mule at Labriola. In short, this was well worth the cost. A delightful evening of food, facts, and fun!!!
