Huge meandering garden with paved paths and more exciting little dirt trails. I went for the first time as a local resident with a friend in the dead of winter with zero expectations and was surprised, delighted, and awed every 3-5 minutes with some outlandish plant. I'm no botanist, I just like to walk around and observe things sometimes. A must visit for all SF residents (you just need something that proves you live in SF). Nominal fee for non residents. Visiting the SF botanical garden is like going continent hopping (New Zealand, anyone?) or time traveling (ancient plants! Pretend to be a dinosaur!). Will definitely bring my mom here but have to be careful or she'll want to spend the entire day being enthralled. Also, a majestic blue heron flew right toward the bench my friend and I were on and perched on a nearby rock for a good 5-10 minutes before flying away to roost in some epic tree. It was magic.
