I am sorry to be a spoil sport here, but I must say that for us Keukenhof was a big let down. It started with the bus journey from Leiden station, which by the way, is supposed to be the best way to reach Keukenhof. At the station they tried to stuff as many people as they could in the bus, with the result that there were many people including children standing. Matters got worse when the normal 30 minutes travel time stretched to over an hour. The bus driver was teally rude and he refused to let out the passengers who requested that they be let out despite it being extremely stuffy and uncomfortable. After the gruelling ride, when we finally reached Keukenhof, it was really crowded. While there were few beautiful flowers, the famed tulip fields were nowhere to be seen. They were just ugly brown fields. We saw better tulip fields along the way. The special Van Gogh exhibit can at best be rated as average. Maybe it was the Easter weeekend rush or the hot weather, but we came away from Keukenhof utterly dissapointed. To sum up, I really feel that Keukenhof is rapidly becoming a victim of its own success. I think that one can see better tulip fields in other parts of Holland and Europe and the total cost one pays to visit the place is simply not worth it.
