Our stay at the Westin was my second trip to Bali ...

Our stay at the Westin was my second trip to Bali (stayed in the Canggu area the first time) and my daughter s first trip overseas. Overall I am really disappointed with Westin Nusa Dua.

The first issue was I found it to be terribly overpriced for Bali - even for a resort! Prices for almost everything were more than you would usually pay at home and 150% on local prices. Casual beach front dining at Ikan was $90+ for one adult and one child + the food was terrible and the ambience was non-existent. Hotel cars were waaaay over priced - we were offered a price of 250 rupiah to Waterbom Theme Park Kuta vs the 90 we paid in a taxi. Sunscreen at the hotel store was $23aud for 100mls vs $10 in the pharmacy...

Secondly- I had an issue with room where the staff lacked clear and concise communication around the holding deposit for the room charges, they were unwilling to admit fault and couldn t offer a solution to the issue. Very frustrating.

Thirdly- the lack of affiliations with reputable 3rd parties for activities was disappointing. When I asked about snorkeling for myself and my daughter a staff member told she would Google it for me... hmm pretty sure I can do that myself They did offer a contact at a local surf school - when I checked prices I found them to be more expensive than lessons at home. How?!

Prob also worth mentioning that my daughter was bitten by mosquitoes- 8 bites in total- in the lobby. She s allergic so we needed to make a trip to the chemist for antihistamines.

I was also annoyed that I was unable to book an in-room massage from a 3rd party- suppose this is standard for a large resort though due to security etc

I can say the pools were lovely- my daughter really enjoyed the slide and she met other kids her age which was nice. The stretch of beach was also good.

Unfortunately, though, the snorkeling gear we purchased from the in hotel store (for $50!) broke immediately and we needed to return it.

Another of the restaurants was closed whilst we were here. I found it lacked a good/chilled bar to have a post swim/pre-dinner drink. The living room feels disconnected from the main areas of the hotel and, again, lacks ambiance. Would have been great to have more games to play with my daughter and possibly closer to the pool tables? Breakfast, however, was great. A huge selection of foods from every culture - big tick for this.

Overall it has really lacked the level of service and flexibility I d expect from a large resort and accomodating nature of Bali tourism I d come to expect after my first trip, particularly at the inflated price point.

I very much doubt we will book again given the large variety of options available in Bali.
