If you want to adopt a pet from the Hawaiian Humane Society, it is better to come earlier than 4pm (closing time) so you can spend time with the pet you would like to adopt to see if there's chemistry between you and the pet. Sometimes it gets really crowded just before closing time.

There is also a pet "food bank" program if you are juggling bills and have to choose between paying bills or buying food for your pet, the Hawaiian Humane society can help you with a bag of pet food to help tide you over so your pet won't have to starve because you needed to pay bills. Ask staff about the pet food bank. Sometimes if donations of pet food is low, the food bank may not have food to give out....
