Reserved this hotel because it was on the river and I am not familiar with Grand Rapids. Should have known the price was way too good to be true. Was told we could check-in @ 3pm. Checked in at 4:10 pm and was told no rooms were ready because they were being cleaned. Denise was the check-in lady and she was rude and nonchalant. I called the front desk every 20 minutes for an update and they didn't have one for me. Finally, at 5:45pm, I went up to the front desk and stated, 1. The rooms better be immaculate for this wait, and 2. If the room is not ready at this point, I want a refund and I am going somewhere else. Danielle was helping me this time, she was more easy going. She said there was one room that just became available and it was mine. When she called the room though (why she called the room was beyond me), she claimed the room was already occupied. All while this is going on, the hotel manager is telling Denise "how stupid these people are for wanting a free buffet in the morning because of the inconvenience and if he can help they aren't getting $&%#. I got my refund and went to Comfort Suites, where I had a much easier and nicer experience. Later that night, a friend who lives in Grand Rapids says to stay away from The Grand River Hotel at ALL COST!
