Sonya Turner Review of Box hill TAFE

In July I enrolled as mid year student in a Certificate with their city campus and was asked to go to orientation day on Monday. All I can say that my experience was so terrible, so unprofessional that I decided to cancel my enrollment the very same day.
First there were no directions on where to go for the orientation class. Nothing was on the electronic board so students had to ask the Customer Service desk. After finding the Box Hill rep and moving buildings twice it was decided that oh, we do have an actual room, so we moved buildings again. This was fine at first, because it was the first day so I expect a few small problems, but then there was an issue with student cards/numbers. Only two of us had student cards/numbers and the other students didn't which meant they couldn't log into the Student portal to enroll into their class units. As that was being fixed, I couldn't log into the student portal. My ID and/or password didn't work so again I had to wait until that was fixed before proceeding further.
Then there was an issue with Art Kits that we had to buy. Only one student received information before orientation day on what to buy for their kit. I shouldn't have to wait to the first day of class, to find out I have to buy $350 worth of supplies. And here's a tip, you need to change the year on your form. It's no longer 2015!
However the big deal breaker for me was when we were given our class schedules.(Even though I had asked repeatedly to have it before first day of class). My class schedule said that I had 2 -3 classes every day for 3 days which I was told about at Information night. However the teacher noticed, that the schedules were wrong as two of the classes could not be started mid year. She told me that they could only be started next year as they went for a full year. Hence that I wouldn't finish my certificate mid year, but at the end of 2017. (so 1 and a half years in total)
So instead of attending 2-3 class a day like I was told at the Information session (and written on my schedule), the truth was I would be only attending 1 class a day, 3 days a week.
Now maybe this isn't a problem for most students, but I had given up a job to attend this class with the impression that I would attend school full time and finish mid year (their website even says that the course is 1 year full time, 2 years part-time), as I had made plans to move interstate mid year. Furthermore I had rescheduled another class I have been attending, due to the scheduling conflicts. If I had known that I would only have 2 hours of classes every day, and that the course finished at the end of 2017, not mid year, I would not have enrolled in the course, or told my employers that I would no longer be available for work, or inconvenienced my other educational provider with the schedule change.
I am very upset about the treatment of myself and other students. Box Hill Tafe need to acknowledge that their careless actions can affect the lives of their students. In this case it has effected me financially.
It is totally unacceptable, that students are given completely false, limited or incomplete information or have their time wasted by having to redo paperwork and tests twice or having to run between levels or campuses because staff can't be bothered to take some responsibility or check their facts.
