Definitely a highlight of a visit to Canberra. You get quite amazing access to the public areas, considering this is a national parliament. While you can walk around and into the chambers on your own, it's worth taking one of the 40 minute tours that happen about 5 times a day.
There is free parking for two hours in the underground car park at the front.
