Foolishly, my friends and I signed up for a prize raffle during a Wizards game we attended at Verizon Center in DC. The rep who took our emails and phone numbers was authorized by the arena, so it seemed legitimate.

A few weeks later I get a call saying I won a trip to Las Vegas! No less than 5 minutes later (after taking more of my information, including my income range) did the sales rep tell me that I have to drive to King's Creek Plantation to pick up my "prize". One more catch: I have to bring my fiance, even though we are not married. They explained that King Creek's Plantation was a family place, and if you're engaged they consider that being married. Insane. They didn't budge on that. By that point, it was clear that this was an unethical timeshare scam and the phone call ended. After this, I began to receive at least two telemarketing calls a day, which I suspect is due to them selling my personal information.

And guess what? My friends got the same call about "winning a trip" only a few minutes later.

I will be getting in touch with the Wizards organization because it's unethical and frankly just tacky that they are involved with these scam artists.
