I had an appointment on Saturday 8/10/2019 for an oil change. I expected this appointment to go smoothly. It doesn t get much easier than an oil change. This is probably still the case. It turns out the problem is actually more the lackadaisical nature of the entire Nissan service department. I expected that I would drop my car off, have lunch, be back in an hour and be on my way.

An oil change is a routine item. Doing it myself with my own jack, jack stands, oil, filter, etc. I can complete this task in under thirty minutes. I dropped my truck off and while I was there the representative I met logged my vehicle in and started the service appointment. He asked if I wanted to rotate my tires while I was there. I said yes. I asked how long it would take and was told about an hour.

As I made my way back to the service desk to wait for the completion of my service I spotted my vehicle parked in the lot. It had been a few minutes over one hour and I thought that they had been very efficient in completing my service. I didn t expect any differently, I have been frequently Stokes Kia for service for a number of years now and an oil change has always been under 45 minutes. When I went back into the shop one of the service personal had his feet up on his desk and he was staring at his phone.

I went to the other person and asked about my truck. He said it wasn t quite done yet. I responded that I noticed the truck was out in the lot and no longer in the service bay. He said he would go grab the paperwork. He commented that they didn t bring up the paperwork. Mr. Phone Guy stated story of my life . Perhaps he was talking about the lack of communications between the front and back of the service shop. I expect it was probably something about instagram since his phone was more important to him.

The service person returned a few minutes later and said they truck was going in for its work immediately. This information tells me that they had both a bay and a technician able to perform service since my truck immediately went in for work. It was an hour past my appointment time and before I asked about the status it was no hurry to actually get to this work. I instructed him to bring my truck back up to me and I would be leaving. My truck was brought back around and the tech hopped out and started telling the service person a joke while he blocked the door and prevented me from leaving.

I guess since my truck was now off the schedule and we where already an hour past the appointment time he was free from work duties for the next hour.

So that was my visit and from it I learned that I need to either do my own oil change or schedule for another place. The more important thing I learned was that I would not wish to need more robust service from Nissan if this is the operation that they run and that probably rules out the Titan or Armada from my next vehicle. I was actually liking my Nissan too. Shame!
