I was interested in getting a pair of custom sleep plugs from Sensaphonics, and I was also interested in purchasing a second set of ear impressions to send to the manufacturer of my in-ear monitors to get custom ear-tips made -- seems like a pretty normal request to me, and I was happy to pay for them. No problem with scheduling a $75 hearing screening and selling me $100 ear plugs.
However, and I quote, "[they] will not support other businesses" so they wouldn't sell me a second set of impressions. But they will gladly accept impressions done by other audiologists in order to sell you a set of their own in-ear monitors. The representative also claimed that they are "all about hearing conservation" -- seems to me they're more about making a buck and preventing anyone else from doing so.
Oh, and when I tried to call back to make sure I understood them correctly, they wouldn't answer my calls.
It's a shame, really. I wasn't going to buy headphones from them either way. I'm not a musician, nor do I need $1000 headphones when I already have a $200 pair that works great. Good thing there are other audiologists in Chicago who will gladly accept my money for the same services!
