EDIT: I wrote the original review while still communicating with Southside about the deposit issue I mention towards the end. Upon discussing the situation with our letting agent, Southside took charge of the final cleaning fee and returned the entirety of the deposit to us.

We also received further information about the reasons behind the issues we encountered, which left us with no doubt that our letting agent did her best to provide good service to us throughout the tenancy.

This definitely flipped our perspective on the situation and the quality of Southside's services. I guess that things can't always run smoothly in spite of everyone's best efforts, and I must say that SPM did their best to solve the issues we ran into. Comparing my review to the 300-something others, it seems that what we encountered is far from being the norm, and we have been informed that Southside took dispositions to ensure it would not happen again.

Ultimately, while my original review ended on a very negative note, the final outcome of our tenancy is definitely a positive one, and I must say that Southside still remains a very reliable agency for living in Edinburgh.

I have rented a property with Southside from July 2016 to July 2017. Upon arrival, the flat was unclean (dead mice, clogged sinks, copious amounts of human hair on the floors, atrocious stench), and we had to clean it by ourselves, with no financial compensation from SPM. Throughout the check-in process, Southside insisted that the property had been cleaned to 'professional' standards.



The staff themselves have been friendly over email and in person, always extremely responsive, and I would not blame them individually for our experience, but I will personally refrain from renting with them in the future.
