Aside from my OBGYN, I have had the worst experience of my life here. Pediatric department is worthless. No wonder the hospital is not approved as baby friendly. Even most nurses and lab techs complain about the policies regarding babies. The pediatricians I saw after giving birth tried convincing me that I had to go back to the hospital every day for weight and jaundice checks. 1. My babies weight wasn t going up. This was because I was a new mom, had a c section baby, have never breast fed before, did not know how to use a hand pump, was not given a prescription for an electric pump (until my doctor gave me one at my 2 week post op, shout out to my amazing OB). 2. So naturally, the pediatricians tried convincing me that my baby had some sort of genetic disease. Even though she had no other problems, just weight. They also used the wrong weight for her birth weight. Low and behold, now at two weeks, she has gained 1 lb since birth and is fine. 3. My baby had jaundice. We had to be admitted to the hospital for a day to treat the jaundice. The levels started going up and they said we had to be admitted again. So I got a second opinion, and the pediatric dietitian said to put formula in the bottle and that will fix it. No one at Winona health told me this, the doctor was from gundersen. Thanks Winona health. 4. Doctor told me that my breast milk wasn t nutritious enough for the baby, which is totally false. She said it was really common. False. 5. My OB told me that this happens with that pediatrician all the time and that he wasn t surprised. Ummmm. FIRE HER. Sorry but if this keeps happening action needs to be taken.
