The museum opens at 10 but people start lining up at around 9:45. We happened to be there early since we went to snap some pics of the Space Needle beforehand. We bought our tickets the same day, online, and saved a couple of bucks ($28 for an adult vs. the $30 walk up). I was also able to use my student ID ($25), you just have to show it along with your ticket when you enter.
Be prepared to spend at least 2 hours there. There are a lot of cool exhibits, like the tattoos, Nirvana, horror and sci-fi movies. (Also if you re a Jimi Hendrix or Pearl Jam fan, they have exhibits for those as well. They re really going for a Washington musicians theme here). My favorite was probably the Sound Lab where you can take a quick music lesson and even record your own demos in a sound room.
If I were to re-do it, I would go on a weekday so that there are less kids running around since I doubt schools would be taking class trips here. Definitely worth a visit though! Just make sure to come early so you can avoid crowds.
