Considering that it's construction predates in one...

Considering that it's construction predates in one thousand years the building of the neighbor Sultanahmet mosque, and that the design of the latter was based on the former, the inside reflects perfectly the difference between what was initially a christian church and what it is a mosque.
The darkness and the earthly colours of the Hagia Sophia contrasts perfectly with the lightness and peacefulness of the Sultanahmet mosque.
I dare to say that one couldn't exist without the other and having both a short walk from each other is simply amazing...
