I was a nurse in a psychiatric hospital and we had to send ill patients to Grady on several occasions. If they were admitted it was impossible to get a report on our patients. The nurses were from another country and did NOT want to be bothered. When asked to report on our patient they would state,"He's fine. He's eating." That is not a nursing report and I told a nurse that. She did not like it. She stated she couldn't give me a report. I told her to talk to her charge nurse, she did and then did give an appropriate report.
We sent aids with our patients and the nurses would try and get them to do their work which would be illegal. Our aids would not do it, thank goodness. They would wait for a long time for the nurses to respond and then it was with an "attitude".
Change your hiring policy. Hire professional people that want to take care of the sick and pay them accordingly. It is less expensive in the long run if you have people that enjoy going to work than people that just stand around to get a pay check and do NOT care about each other, let alone their patient. Hiring should be done by more than one person to get a truly good feel for a person's ability and true willingness to WORK and to be PLEASANT!!!
