Two tests are available:
Throat culture: a collection of secretions from the tonsils is made to detect the presence of the bacteria. The result is known in 24 to 48 hours. This is the reference test.
Rapid detection of antigens: a sample is taken inside the throat to detect the presence of substances associated with SGA. The result is faster (15 minutes) but less accurate.
