You know the old saying, "You get what you pay for!" The Chateau is in the beautiful building that was once Jumer's, which, in its day, was the finest hotel and banquet facility in Bloomington-Normal. I recently stayed 2 nights at The Chateau and see that it hasn't improved any since my last disappointing stay which was a couple of years ago. The front entryway reeked of chlorine, the elevator reeked of cheap air freshener, and the hallway outside the elevator on 3rd floor smelled like vomit! The front desk attendant said she gave me a "guiet" room, but the 3 big A/C units outside my window, plus the kitchen grill vent, were not very quiet! The sheets feel like sandpaper and are so rough they hurt my skin! The bathtub was disgusting! (see photo below) I know those tubs with the non-slip surface can be challenging to clean, but find some bleach or something that will get them clean! The shower curtain was dingy and yellowed, as if it had been there since the days smoking was allowed in the rooms. The elevator broke while I was there (there is only 1 elevator) and they didn't bother to post any signs anywhere saying it was out of order. That might be because they don't seem to have very many employees. There is NO free continental breakfast. Other reviews have mentioned a $5 breakfast, but I didn't see that, must have discontinued it. The parking is free, but not very close to the front entrance. Such a beautiful building to house such a disappointing hotel!
