Usually Alamo Draft House gets the popular vote on best theater in Austin however the Regal Arbor 8 at Great Hills wins on a note vote. This is THE place to see independent movies in Austin. Most of the time you can show up 10 minutes before a movie and not worry about if you will have to sit in the front row, it's usually not crowded except for peak times on the weekends. It's located in the Arboretum area so there are plenty of places to go before or after the movies. If you don't quite feel like dealing with the crowds of Alamo, come see something different at Regal Arbor 8.
