Bardem General Hospital is a completely private hospital established in Shahbag, Dhaka, Bangladesh for the free treatment of diabetics. It is located on the other side of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. The founder of the hospital is Dr. Mohammad Ibrahim. It is currently managed by the Bangladesh Diabetic Association. The head office of Bangladesh Diabetic Association is also located here. In February 1956, Bangladesh Diabetic Association (then renamed as Pakistan Diabetic Association) was formed. Bangladesh Diabetic Association is a separate organization. During the Pakistan period, some land of the association was given for a hospital in Segunbagicha. Official activities started in 1970. In 1982, Bardem became a partner of the World Health Organization in developing community-based programs to prevent and control diabetes. This is the first such organization outside Europe.
