My 2011 BMW X5 was brought here for repairs following an accident. BMW Seattle replaced the rack and pinion (as well as other suspension parts). Three weeks after picking up the vehicle and driving it on I-5, I hear a loud bang, then a crack, then horrendous grinding. The smell of burnt oil and smoke started coming out the hood and into the car's vents. I'm stuck in the carpool lane and cannot merge over to the right so I had to do my best to pull onto the left shoulder and still had to block the carpool lane, then as I creeped to a stop the car shut down.

After towing it to my local shop - I pop the hood and found the power steering hose wasn't secure and just flailing around in my engine bay. Lifting the car up, I found that the front drive shaft had snapped off and banged against my oil pan breaking a huge hole in it causing all the oil to come out.

After many failed attempts to reach someone in service I ended up calling BMW of Bellevue who told me there are two recalls on my vehicle 1 for the VANOS system and 2 for possible front drive line u-joint failure.
Two important recalls BMW Seattle failed to inform me of and/or address while they had the vehicle in for other repairs.
A service advisor from BMW Seattle called me back a few hours later and told me the VANOS wasn't brought up or fixed because the parts are on back order - as for the drive line recall she doesn't know why it wasn't brought up or addressed.

So due to either pure negligence or lack of professionalism, my friends and I were put in a very dangerous situation that could have easily been avoided had the service advisor that initially and secondarily looked at my car told me of the recall so I could have it addressed instead of taking it out on the freeway.
