I wasn't really expecting much since this was a "mature" dinner theater venue setting and with Kinky Boots as the performance, my wife and I were prepared to leave at intermission if necessary. Having seen Kinky twice on Broadway (we have lived in NJ forever and been Broadway, NJ, and Phila theater regulars since the '60's) our expectations for the Palm production were'nt very high, especially after seeing the very meager set design - just a door off to the right with a Price&Sons sign.
But once the show started we were blown away! First, the sound system was outstanding. A few weeks earlier we attending two shows at the Barbara Mann center (Jersey Boys, Cats) and found their sound system abysmal. Palm's sound system was as good NYC's New World Stage, Sondheim, Marqui, etc etc. The performers could easily be Broadway caliber. The girl who played Lauren was just outstanding.
Just be prepared to see lots of mature folk, a reasonable buffet, and pretty good seating.
We plan on returning next year and hopefully they'll be performing the new West Side story which we will see in June on Broadway.........:-)
