I had a complicated pilon fracture of my tibia and fibula in January 2018. It was determined that I needed a trauma surgeon to perform an ORIF surgery. Dr Joel Williams did several surgeries to get me back on my feet. He got me into a boot at 3 weeks so I could begin regaining range of motion in my ankle, even though I couldn't bear weight. I think this led to a much smoother recovery and faster progress in PT.
Surgeons can sometimes be a bit arrogant or condescending - not this guy! He's very serious about his job, but doesn't talk down to patients or brush off concerns. Dr Williams is dedicated, focused, and clearly brilliant in the OR. He came to see me once at 9pm during a subsequent hospitalization - after a full day in the clinic and on his way to surgery - despite his residents rounding earlier that day. He listened to my concerns and got me on the surgical schedule the next morning.
He really cares about his patients and getting them back to their normal activities in life. He takes the time to talk to you and address all concerns and questions you might have. He also has a wonderful team - PA Lauren and Administrative Assistant Xiomara both were amazing.
If you go into the office to see him, there's a good chance you'll have to wait a bit. But if you want to see someone who's going to talk to you and address all your concerns, that can't be helped. If you want someone who runs right on time, expect to see someone that rushes you in and out the door. Dr. Williams is going to see every patient he needs to see on a given date. That means he'll probably be overbooked, and he may run behind, but he's a fantastic doctor, and it's well worth the wait.
If I ever fold my ankle a full 180 degrees upwards again, you can bet the only surgeon touching it will be Dr Williams! :)
