Went there for the African culture event. Was free. Upon arrival, was greeted by employee who cheerfully directed me to the areas of activities. Though clothing was advertised, there was none. Had a large room dedicated to art and history, with artists and family members at each table. All were cheerful and eagerly spoke of their topics. The art was for sale, at reasonable prices. There were actual family members at their tables, which displayed significant pictures and documentation. One was actually related to a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Next went to music show in auditorium, where I heard some great jazz and blues selections by several bands. Then, in the same place, saw African percussion performance by grade and high school students, which was very well done. All shows were well hosted and announced. Finally, saw performance, again by same apparent aged students, of portions of famous musicals. They were amazingly wellprepared and talented. Some had already won awards and scholarships. After this, I went to get some free soul food, which was delicious. Talked to and complemented the cooks, one of whom was over 80 years old. They also gladly shared their recipes, except one who said the meat loaf seasoning was a long held family secret. Took many pictures. A great program from the parks department! Pictures to follow.
