I got a chance to experience Lucky 32 Southern Kit...

I got a chance to experience Lucky 32 Southern Kitchen's cuisine as a part of the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ Festival held Aug 1-2 in Cary, North Carolina. Chef De Cuisine Russell Shinn and Her Awesomeness, Dining Room Manager Lara Yerges served BBQ with Johnnycake and Voodoo Sauce.

It was incredible. Everybody got seconds; latecomers got disappointed. Chef Russell and Lara describe the fare at Lucky 32 as "healthful, thoughtfully-prepared locally-grown Southern Cuisine."

Chef Russell explained what your hog was before you bought him home from the market, and how Lucky 32's sourcing provides top-quality meat at cost-effective rates. Chef had cuts of meat that he described in detail to an attentive group. He explained the uses of salt, its value in past times, and its function as the root of words as disparate as 'salary' and 'salute.' Salt as payment for a days' work is something to contemplate.

Chef Bussell showed us a slab o' bacon that looked as if Pocahontas cured it. It was fragrant and mossy and I wanted to grab it and run.

Lara explained all the fine southern favorites available at Lucky 32, and served up southern-sized helpings of bbq and johnnycake.

Lucky 32's Voodoo sauce has a mind of its own.

It was incredible. Light, not too sweet, spicy; left a mysterious afterglow in your mouth.

All around informative. The raffle was more fun than I've had in a long time. Lots of happy winners. Not to be missed. Already looking forward to next year.

Oh, and there was a howling rain pelting the tent during the tasting. The rain-soaked guests were treated to a tasting and demo that was well worth it.
