What a disappointment! My friend and I were spending one night at the Omni Grove Park Inn after a day at the Biltmore before we picked up kids from camp. We were excited to have dinner there and relax in the hot tub. That's not how it ended up being. We pulled up to the valet about 6:30-7:00PM on a Thursday evening. The valet looked short staffed and behind. They loaded our luggage on a cart and said someone would bring it up to us. We checked in and were told we were in the historic section. Not really sure what that was until we got to the room and realized it was the original OLD rooms. The carpet was disgusting. We were starving and called down to the Terrace restaurant and found out there were no reservations until 9:15PM. We took that one, figuring we would go check the other restaurants out. We then had to wait over a half hour just to get our luggage in the room. By the time we went downstairs and checked out the other restaurants, they also had wait times, even though all three restaurants had empty tables, (another area short staffed). We had a few drinks on the terrace, but there was only one poor waitress for the entire terrace area and she was running. We went up tot he stand for our reservations at 9:10PM only to be told to have a seat in the lobby and they would let us know when our table was ready. We were seated at 9:40PM. we paid $150 for 2 drinks, 2 biscuits, one filet, and 4 scallops. What a waste of time. We checked out at 8:30AM the next morning, after having stayed a whole 13 hours at the hotel paying $617.52! There is a $25 resort fee (which we didn't use) and if we wanted to use the spa hot tub area that would have costed us another fee. Taxes alone were $35.64.
We picked up 6 kids from camp and started home, but spent the night in Columbia, SC at a Marriott Fairfield Inn since we needed three rooms. We got clean, big rooms, wonderful beds, and breakfast for under $250. I think I'll stay a Marriott fan.
