FEEDING THE ZEITGEIST Review of The Third Space

This health club looks good when you first walk in. However using it will leave you disappointed.
We had been members for 10 years, but recently it became clear that we could stay. This has nothing to do with cost and everything to do with being fit for purpose.
Make no mistake, this is an expensive gym. Since being taken over, it constant price increases have increased by as much as 40% while usability has plummeted. This is a clear case of big buisness chasing a bigger profit, and being short sited.
Also, nothing about this place feels genuinely friendly. This is a corpeate sterile cold place with staff that feel like they have a painted on smile. You only feel important or useful to them if you are spending money on their extras. But this could be ignored if the club got everything else right... but it doesn't...and has got progressively worse...
Massive overcrowding ..and changes in recently in eqipmemt can result in very long waits for treadmills or excessive bikes.
Despite is large size, terrible management desisions Mean time consuming waits in the most built up areas of the gym floor.
We have found that management are unwilling to listen to suggestions from members since it was recently taken over by the larger company.
It can even be hard to find lockers in peak times. And cues for showers often frustrate and make people late for work.
Classes will be fully booked, and we have even had to pay to use facilities elsewhere due to the overcrowding.
The changing rooms are clean, But sterile... and very busy.
It doesn't help that the club hires out it facilities constantly to 3rd party combat marshal arts classes. These have huge footprints in terms in the changing rooms including massive weapons etc. On those regular days changing is practically impossible.
The othe problem is the atmospher.
We have whittnessed several altercations in recent weeks and it seemed to be getting worse.
Police have been called do deal with this, on a number of occasions. It even seemed that staff were involved with pne of the altercations where police were called.
It seems that membership is at was at an all time low.
Also, be aware that we seem to see many 'tours' for potential new members' being given at times when overcrowding is less evident...such as when classes are not scheduled.
After 10 years, we have both joined a different friendly local gym, with a pool, steam room sauna, and much more of the machines that users really want to use. All of this with beautiful views of 'the thames'
The cost is a fraction....between us, me and my partner save 2 a half thousand pounds each year and have access to a gym that is far better equipped for the average user.
Id suggest that you look around, you may find you are happier else where..
We would never go back, and that is for several reasons.
These are obviously just our own person opinions.
I hope you find this review useful..
