James Eagan Review of Wyndham Va Beach Oceanfront
I wanted to like this place... Really, I did. And ...
I wanted to like this place... Really, I did. And it started off great. When we first arrived we were greeted by a very capable and knowledgeable man at the front desk. When we went to our room we were pleasantly surprised to find that our suite was so large. It had two separate balconies! I was happy to see that there was a kitchenette and a microwave and large refrigerator too. So far, so awesome. We were running late for the rehearsal dinner we were going to (which was at 6:30 in the York Room) due to Memorial Day weekend traffic. First problem was the iron. It stopped working while I was using it. The exhaust fan in the bathroom was not working either. The air conditioner was leaking too. I was still fine though. The price we were paying was so good for what we were getting. We had ocean views! Before going to the rehearsal dinner, we stopped by the front desk to ask for directions to the York Room. The young man was not sure and gave us incorrect information. Then he shouted the right directions to us as we were heading up the stairs. The dinner was very good. After dinner we went to the outdoor area on the beach. The bar and the bartenders in the lounge were awesome. Due to recent surgery I have urgent need to go to the bathroom sometimes and we were going to call it a night. We were heading back to our room and we were called to from across the lobby by a very aggressive woman at the concierge desk. She had a hard time understanding that I needed to get back to the room. But... Whatever... Still everything was fine. Next day we ordered room service for breakfast. The young man on the phone was not sure about things and had to keep asking others what to do. All in all, everything was still fine though. We went to the beach. Very nice! Beautiful, perfect weather. Next morning we ordered room service again. The girl on the phone was a much more adept at her job. She called back with the total of the bill. And then again when the food was on the way. Inconsistency is not good though. We went to the wedding at another venue but had to come back because of my digestive problems. Yesterday we had a great day. We rented bikes and went exploring. When we returned to the hotel I decided that I wanted to pay to stay until 4 instead of the regular check out time. My partner was paying for everything else as a birthday present to me. The room was in his name. I told him that I wanted to pay the extra $100 and he made arrangements. I had also paid for the bicycles. Today I was awakened out of a sound sleep by housekeeping. No one had informed her about our late checkout. She looked very confused. Really? This is really inexcusable. I am sorry. Still, I was okay. We went down to the beach for one last time before our 4:00 checkout time. Once again I was needing to go back to the room because of my digestive issue. It was 3:00. Our card key had been deactivated. It was the last annoying straw. Yes, I was angry. I still am. I am sorry to say that I was using some rather colorful language. But, rather than try to make up for their mistake, I was made to feel like a criminal. Security was called, and the man at the front desk threatened to call the police when I called down to tell him how unhappy I was that we would still be required to pay the extra $100 dollars. That was money that I was paying to ensure that we still had the room until 4:00. My wishes were NOT honored. Yet I was still forced to pay money for something we did not receive. No, the room was NOT in my name. But I was the one paying extra. When I called downstairs after regaining access to our room, I was told that if I did not stop harassing him, he was going to call the police. I merely wanted a resolution and to be apologized to for their mistake of prematurely denying us access to our room. Is that asking too much? There really do need to be some changes made here. I am livid.
