Aleppo Citadel

The Citadel of Aleppo is a fortified palace dating back to the Middle Ages. The Citadel of Aleppo is considered one of the oldest and largest castles in the world, the use of the hill on which the castle is located dates back to the third millennium BC, when it was later occupied by many civilizations, including the Greeks, Byzantines, Mamluks and Ayyubids, while it appears that most of the current building dates back to the Ayyubid period. The Aga Khan Trust for Culture and the Archaeological Society of Aleppo undertook extensive conservation operations on it in 2000. The castle is located in the center of the old city [1] which was listed by UNESCO on the list of World Heritage Sites in 1986.
