Jessica Owen Review of Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas
This was a surprise gift for our wedding night. We...
This was a surprise gift for our wedding night. We were whisked away from our wedding to our honeymoon without being able to pack all of our things. Upon arrival the front desk checked us in, did not congratulate us and put it off, but did try to upgrade us for a charge. When I tried to clarify, the amount she told me would be the cost then ended up being a per night charge. It felt very misleading, but I left it as a mistake and moved on. Got to the room, great, clean, comfortable. On our THIRD night, we get back to our room after a late night show, only to fin out we have been locked out of our room. So at 1:00am we went up to the front desk. To find out that the girl checking us in had not taken our card information for incidentals. So on the hotels mistake, we are locked out of our room. The hotels (high end) we had stayed in traveling to Vegas had used the card that was used to book the room, but the Waldorf would not. Like I d previously stated, since we were surprised and taken from our wedding straight to our trip, we did not pack any of our things. In other words, I did not have my purse. The only card we had on us was our emergency debit card that we have for special occasions, so we do not keep a lot of funds on the card. We had just put in the cash we d received for this trip. The girl at the front desk LAUGHED. The proceeds to comment that she shouldn t laugh, but it s just too funny. As if our situation was funny? The manager comes out and says there is nothing they can do and would not let us back into our room without the card. Being as it is 1am (2am at home), we cant even call the person who has booked this trip for us. So they drop the hold from over $1000 to just over $500. This puts us very limited on funds for the rest of our trip but apparently have no choice. So we put it on. All the while, being treated as if we don t belong there. The next day, we find that they have taken almost $300 more out of our account than we d agreed upon. So we go back up to the night manager, who tells us their system has glitched and there is nothing he can do to release the funds until we check out (in 2 more days). I m dumbfounded that they can make a mistake and take money and have no way of correcting until the end. So he offers a $100 credit to use for any restaurant in the hotel or in-room dining. I m skeptical, because of everything else that has gone wrong, but accept after asking what felt like a hundred questions to ensure no stipulations. We go eat at the Zen Kitchen which was great. Food presentation and quality was top notch. However, I still felt uneasy about using the credit. At this point, our honeymoon has been ruined. Nothing but stress and issues from a hotel that should have been smooth sailing and would have had no issues had check in been conducted correctly and efficiently. Relieved to finally be leaving, we go to the front desk (at 4am since we have to catch an early flight). I check on the credit we were supposed to receive and verify (AGAIN) the final amount that is going to be charged. Low and behold, no credit was ever put on the account! She asked who we spoke with, we told her the night manager, which she quickly replied, I am the night manager. So we spend the next 10 MINUTES trying to describe this mystery man that had told us he was the night manager. She kept coming back saying this name and describing someone completely opposite of what we had been explaining. She finally had a light bulb go off and explain, OH! That is the other night manager. You must be joking. That didn t occur to you when we said the night manager did it, it was a male, and NOT YOU?? I m fuming but clearly there is not point in arguing as it quite literally wouldn t get through. And any benefit they would give us would turn around and bite us. She proceeds to tell us that she will need to speak with him when he comes in and will then send us the final bill depending on what he says.
