Booked a classic room which looked stunning in the photos. Was given a room that stares out to a wall (a metre apart) and had a faint cat smell, asked to have changed it immediately, we were told that we had booked a classic room so none of them were going to have a good view. Were given another room which looked out to the car park and a broken roof. It looked nothing like it did in the photos. We weren't expecting a river view, but the hotel looked lovely in the communal areas and we were being shoved into the forsaken corners of it, even though the room we booked look great in marketing shots specifically for the classic room.

Paid 15gbp extra for our dog to stay with us for a night, yet he wasn't allowed in the communal areas, and wasn't allowed to be left alone in the room, we were asked if we wanted breakfast but we wouldn't have been able to eat in the dining room unless my boyfriend and I took turns.

After negotiating at length with the receptionist who, given his dismissive and arrogant attitude, had clearly had this issue before, we asked to cancel the room and were eventually 'upgraded' to a room which was much more similar to what was advertised. Even the last room we were given was in disrepair and needed a face lift.

The whole time we were trying to resolve this issue there was a dead animal being picked apart by crows right at the entrance, it was there for at least 5 hours, you would've thought someone would have had the initiative to remove it and spare the guests from the unsolicited nat geo scenes.

The bed sheets gave me a rash, can't imagine what type of cheap industrial detergents they're using to clean them, but could barely get to sleep from it, ended up having to cover myself from head to toe and cover the pillow with a t-shirt to get to sleep.

In short- massive variation of room quality from a neglected premier inn to slightly run down highland cottage overlooking river ness. Not really dog friendly. Young receptionist was really rude, with an air of 'you booked the classic room so be gone, peasant'.
