So in Post Katrina NOLA, these folks took the heat for the levee breach & all the destruction that came with it, I dare not take either side on this issue as that's not the intent of this review. I will however speak to the facility and the people in short.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED, did i say LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED working here. I worked with a wonderful group of intelligent, caring, compassionate, dependable, reliable people & to this day I'm glad to say I've maintained those friendships/relationships (super Dot, Bob, Sandy, Robert & Bradford, just to name a few).
While employed there, I experienced a very laid back work environment. Now don't get it twisted, we DID work and we worked hard, but the play was the same; afterall, "All work and no play..." As I stated, despite the relaxed environment, there was some serious work going on here, ie Dredging, levee reinforcement, levee construction etc. I learned lots here & it was an experience that I will treasure for a lifetime.
Civilians, contractors & government enlisted personnel all working together, it was the makeup of this facility. It was amazing to see the civilians line up with the government rules, although they were never/no longer in the military; Uncle Sam was running things from the grave, bad mutter shut yo mouth, ha!!!!
The cafeteria was a familiar meeting spot not only for lunch & food consumption, but also for communing with fellow employees, almost an adult recess so to speak. The food service was contracted out to a very nice lady from California, name escapes me, but she must've had some "NOLA-baby" cooks, cuz that food tasted like something from home.
There was a credit union, First Castle Credit Union, on site that was open to civilians & military alike. This was a plus to have an on-site banking facility or maybe it wasn't a plus, as I recall I found myself down there ALLLLL the time getting $5 or $10 here and there.
3 floors with oooooh tooooo many offices and offices in offices to number, I enjoyed my stay & that's all I have to say about that. LOL!!!!!
