I went to new Giants Stadium at the Meadowlands for the first time last night to see Bruce Springsteen. MetLife can try to rebrand it and put up all the Snoopy statues it wants, it's like trying to rename the Sears Tower in Chicago, they did but NO ONE calls it anything but the Sears Tower.
My first thought on seeing it was it was really ugly. With all the metal around it, it looked like a little kid made it from an erector set, or they never finished the construction. My first issue was when I tried to enter the stadium- apparently they don t allow cameras, which is their policy and not Bruce Springsteen s as I was allowed a camera at the show I saw in Philly 2 weeks prior. My issue wasn t that I wasn t allowed to bring it in. The issue was that the overly rude worker at the gate tried to KEEP it and I had to wrestle it out of her hands and walk it back to the car. When we got to the gates a second time they took my purse from me and forced me to turn my back as they were going through it. That was NOT acceptable and had my husband not jumped in and watched for me, I fully expect some of my personal items or cash would have been taken.
As for the stadium itself, it s even uglier inside than it is outside and it s filthy. The way the concourse is laid out with venders scattered all over is actually dangerous in a crowd as you have to zig and zag to get around them. Then you get to your seat and realize it makes an airline seat look spacious. I am not a large person and I was extremely uncomfortable. It s so cramped that the gentleman behind me kept kneeing me in the back of the head, not on purpose, just because he was tall and had no room. Beyond that, the acoustics there suck, they have to crank the volume too loud to drown out the air traffic from Newark and there are nowhere near enough bathrooms. At one point there had to be 200 people in line for the ladies room. And leaving the show is again dangerous, all the ramps funnel into one and you all go out the same entrance into the biggest cluster of a parking lot I ve ever seen.
Bottomline: Jesus Christ and his 12 Apostles could book a show there and I wouldn t go.
