It is an overall decent community of learning, yet I believe parents should
pay special emphasis to student opinion rather than just parent opinion.
As a student enrolled in FLVS Full-Time, I could say that I got lucky. Most of my courses don't demand as much as Math and History do, and that is where my main argument is here:
Some pace charts are labeled as 'traditional' while they follow up with about three lessons + assessments for the same week. At the time of writing this review, I have to read and submit about 20+ pages of history material all due by this Friday, November 20 of 2020. The question is, what do they really mean by ''your own pace''?
I believe students should be able to pick their OWN pace rather than having a pacer chart on their hand and making sure they turn in everything they ask from them by Friday at four. I believe students at FLVS should feel like they are in an online platform and not feel as oppressed and frustrated as they would feel in a traditional brick-and-mortar school.
My next argument would be the teacher replacements. From time to time, instructors around FLVS have been switching out of several classes, which limits us what we can and what we can't turn in.
After my math teacher (which was by the way, the worst instructor I've been connected to) had left the online platform, I was unable to turn in assessments since they weren't gonna be graded by anyone. In result, I am now one week behind in that same class (and Spanish, the same happened) because of teacher inactivity.
In sum, I would need to work on about EIGHT lessons and assessments (two DBA's [Discussion Based Assessment], Four Lessons and assessments from both classes combined, and two tests [which one of them has two parts, both around 45min long]).
Parents, students! Please consider the fact that your definition of Flexibility is different from FLVS's version of Flexibility.
In summary, if you're willing to test your luck and most likely get the most challenging classes with huge amounts of lesson-load and work-load while leaving you with a perfect zero amount of hours of free-time, then this online fiasco is the perfect school for you.
