I remember when the Sun God 'went up' in 1983; I referred to it as 'Woodstock on acid'.. it was the first sculpture in UCSD's Stewart Collection.. Niki de Sainte Phalle, its creator, moved permanently from France to San Diego 10 yrs later.. it was her first US sculpture.. what else should one add; it has become a symbol of UCSD (even more so than the Geisel Library)...
