First step in starting my own services division.
I knew about these instruments and about how it works, that helped me a lot when I finally decided to go with techno.

My LT to 33 KV cable fault location kit:

Make: Techno instrumentation India pvt ltd
Surge generator : Model T-1032(10) which means 32 KV with 1000 joules energy with Inbuilt 32 KV DC testing and inbuilt burning.

Reflectometer: Model T-510, gives the distance to the fault

Digipoint: For finding the exact location of fault

I received calls from many manufacturers and at the end my decision was based on following reasons :

1) The surge generator T-1032(10) of techno is not just a thumper, it also has inbuilt DC testing up to 32 kV and inbuilt burning facility. Hence, there is no need for me to get separate burning and DC Testing equipment as it will require more space in my van and add exta maintenance etc.

2) The performance of the digipoint was great when I used it, the display really helps to notice the magnetic and acoustic strength, the quality of acoustic signals was also good, but the main reason which gamechanger was the coincidence figure which will tell you the distance to the fault in milliseconds from your location, as I don't have much experience this was really a nice feature throught which I can be sure about the exact location of fault and start digging there, the company claims that it is really helpful in conditions where the cable is laid inside pipes and I was able to relate to that because of my previous experience where I had a cable fault located by a service provider who brought an instrument of different manufacturer which I called was not able to find the exact location and we had to dig a lot to find the fault, which is ironical because the job of a cable fault locator is to avoid digging large area and be time efficient by telling you the exact location of the fault.

3) They provide 3 methods in Reflectometer which covers all fault conditions, the distance taking instruments of other manufactures looked exactly similar to the Chinese make, hence I was scared about the after sales experience and quality. On the other hand the Techno make Reflectometer was clearly different. It is much more comfortable to use because it's laptop based and requires less effort.

4) The most important point which was a really good add on was the fact that Techno's director Mr. Ravi gupta is considered the top expert in this field and the company has over 35 years of experience of locating faults of all types. Hence, I was assured that if I face any difficult fault conditions in the future, they can certainly help me.

I wrote this review is such details to help others out because their is not much information about underground cable fault locators and it's easy to get confused and end up buying an instrument which might not work in all fault conditions. I did a lot of research and these are the points which I came up.
