The airport has been improving its terminal facilities greatly in recent years. Now there are ample choices for dining and shopping while waiting for your flight, and more comfortable and modern facilities.
So why the two star rating?
Because the airport allows predatory taxi companies to operate at the airport. Not only are unlicensed and unregulated operators allowed to hawk their rides inside the terminal's baggage claim area, and outside, but the taxi stand ripped me off for roughly double what the regular fare should be when I chose to support taxis instead of calling for Lyft or Uber. Never again. I strongly recommend visitors arriving at Newark's airport call for a ride sharing service instead of turning to the taxi stand. Not only was I ripped off, but my complaint and request for an adjustment to my bill was ignored.
