After multiple run-around phone calls with my insurance and ECC, it was determined that the procedure was coded correctly and I do, indeed, owe $925 for a less than 2 minute procedure done by a PA that has been out of school for less than a year. Codes are not determined by duration or who does the procedure, but by the procedure itself. ECC billed insurance $1600 for the ER visit + the procedure (reposition pinkie finger). Thankfully insurance got that reduced to $925... I don't even want to calculate the cost per hour. Hospital charged another $500+ for use of facility and x-ray machine, so I'm at $1500+. Options for a dislocation on a Saturday night are limited to an ER visit. Way to go ECC, you made a nice fee off my unfortunate incident, hope you pay your PAs well. Thankful the xray was only $14 and that was what took the longest (maybe 10 min) of the entire visit.
