Lovely airport and easy to navigate, only downside...

Lovely airport and easy to navigate, only downside was at the gate. At the point of showing our passport and boarding card before alighting the bus to the aircraft. The lady member of staff said we had to wear a surgical mask to proceed, however my husband had a cloth mask that he wore when he arrived, she insisted we were told we needed a surgical mask when we were at the check in desk, we explained that no one had told us of this rule and other passengers in the queue were in the same position. She was insistant it was Italian law, but again we explained no one had told us. She didn't provide any other solution except to go and buy a surgical mask with 15 minutes before our departure time. Another passenger had previously been refused entry and so had gone to buy a pack of surgical masks and so passed them to everyone in the queue. Poor service by someone with no compassion at a time when there is anxiety travelling. Why could she not have been reasonable, would she have insisted we miss our flight? This affected approximately 10 other passengers. I would suggest that she should have announced this when we were queuing for at least 20 minutes instead of waiting until we were at the front of the queue. Bad ending to a lovely stay in Italy.
